A Special Kind Of Kin [part 1]
"Hey... the rain..." Peering upwards, he stuck out his hand to check for more drops. "Hold on," he said to the hump on his back. "I think there's a cabin up there. Just wait..." Leaning against a tree, he secured the lump across his back. He pushed off from the old oak, and ran as fast as he dared along the wet ground, glancing to the sky, observing the clouds.
They reached the door of the cabin. The boy seemed unsure with what he was doing, but a sniffle from the bump made up his mind. Next thing, the wooden door was open, yet the room beyond was not inviting. The rain had started to fall again as he stumbled across the doorstep.
"Ah...achoo!" She'd surprised him, pushing him into the room. "Please, you can let me down now." The wet jumper fell to the floor, revealing a girl, looking not much younger than the boy, clinging to his neck.
He replied by lowering her next to the empty fireplace.
As quickly as he let her go, he'd started a small fire. Gradually lighting the room, the fire crackled with delight as it devoured the wood the boy had thrown into the hearth.
As she watched him work, the girl felt she knew him, but couldn't put her finger on it. Preoccupied, she hadn't seen him slip around behind her, making her jump when she felt his hand on her shoulder.
"I saw what happened out there... Let me help you with it. I'll clean it for you, so it doesn't hurt anymore."
"But-" she started, only to be interrupted by him.
"Listen, I want to help you, but I can't get at your wounds when you're wearing a shirt. So, get rid of this," he says while tugging at her damp shirt. It's then that the girl realizes there's no sign of intention in his voice, simple concern was all that she recognized.
"Wait," she stammered, her voice layered with concern. "Who are you? Before I let you do this, just tell me your name."
He sighed, his head drooping behind her turned head. "If I tell you my name, will you allow me to treat your back?"
"Of course," she replied with a cheery smile, though he couldn't see it.
"Alright. It's Tsukku. Don't ask about the last name; I don't have one." Again he pulled at her shirt, and this time it fell away, stopping mid-way down her back. Unveiling the large gashes across the bottom of the girl's shoulder blades and her blue and orange striped bra, Tsukku gasped. He could feel his wet face redden at the sight of her underwear.
He could not help it, but his eyes strayed to the tag hanging out and just happened to read the size of her bra. Sixteen D... Damn, he grunted. Struggling, he forced his eyes back up to the injuries he was supposed to be cleaning. Slowly and calmly, he began to wipe away the blood caked onto her back, resealing the wound.
Minutes later and her shirt was back upon her shoulders. That was fast, she thought, ruffling her short brown hair back the way she liked it; chaotic and slightly to the front. She turned to face the fire and debated against herself whether she should tell him her name. The struggle must have shown on her face, as Tsukku then asked her what she was thinking about. She told him nothing important, but she's always been an awful liar. He noticed it, although he didn't pursue it.
"Tsukku, was it? My name's Kalea. I thought I should tell you, as you told me yours."
"Oh, thanks..." He paused, thinking. "Is it alright if I just called you Kal?"
